Conference
The most important result of each year is the annual conference. Our 34th
conference was held at Olavsgaard near Oslo September 21 – 24 and we can
congratulate ourselves to a very popular and well received conference. The
futuristic program attracted more attendees (163) than anticipated, and also
the exhibition was larger than budgeted and again very well complementing
the technical program. Also economically the conference was a success.
Members
In 1997 we saw a small decline in paying membership, 241 members compared
with 249 in 1996. With a successful conference we do however not foresee any
trouble.
Board
The Board started out with 2 new members Katarina Boustedt (Ericsson),
secretary and Terho Kutilainen (Aspocomp), treasurer. During the year Anders
Åberg asked to be released from duties and was replaced with Kenneth
Dahlberg (Pacesetter).
Internet
Internet offered us new opportunities to communicate. The Board
introduced as working method Virtual Board Meetings on the Internet and
preparations were made for getting our own Web pages for both internal and
external communications. These became operational in February 1998.
Also other investments in modern office technology has been made to help
the volunteers running the organisation.
IMAPS collaboration
The 11th European Microelectronic Conference was held in May
1997 in Venice and gathered at least 30 attendees from the Nordic area.
Up to that conference Søren Nørlyng represented us in the European
Liaison Committee (ELC) and Paul Collander in Technical Program Committee (TPC).
At the Venice conference they swapped duties.
IMAPS US has started an active program on making the office more
international and Nordic has been involved in that aim. The old
International Liaison Committee (ILC) has got support from the new VP of
International Development.
The Ceramic Interconnect Initiative (CII) from the US is sponsored by the
Nordic Chapter.
A number of IMAPS conferences world wide have seen attendees from the
Nordic chapter.
