Dear IMAPS Nordic Member and Friend,
The Annual Meeting held in Oslo September 22 decided with consensus to change the name
of the organisation in accordance with the international decision from ISHM to IMAPS,
International Microelectronics And Packaging Society. The new logo for IMAPS was presented
at the IMAPS USA conference in Philadelphia on October 13, our Annual Meeting had decided
to follow the USA decision also for the logo. The new logo is green and shown above. It
is a very simple logo and the first reaction was slightly negative, but we believe we will
soon get used to it.
Successful conference in Oslo
As you know, our 34th conference was held at Olavsgaard near Oslo in September and we
can congratulate ourselves to a very popular and well received conference. The futuristic
program attracted more attendees than anticipated, and also the exhibition was larger than
budgeted and again very well complementing the technical program. Copies of the
proceedings can be ordered from Terho Kutilainen, see the right
margin. Also economically the conference was a success.
With this I want to thank all those spending hours on volunteering non-paid work for
the success of the conference, including our Secretary Katarina and our Treasurer Terho
who both managed their demanding tasks making everything first- time-right. Also Snorre
needs to be thanked separately for the splendid local arrangements! To learn from each
event, we ask all of you who have not yet done so, to send your comments on the event to
Katarina.
Anders Åberg replaced with Kenneth Dahlberg
A few weeks before the conference, Anders Åberg informed the board that he wants to be
relieved from his duties due to change in his duties at Ericsson. The board accepted his
request, thanked him for many years of work on the board and called Kenneth Dahlberg from
Pacesetter AB near Stockholm to replace Anders. Already in Oslo Kenneth got the task to
plan the location of next autumns conference.
Kenneth Dahlberg received his masters degree in mechanical engineering at The Royal
Institute of Technology in Stockholm in 1984. From 1984 to 1994 he worked with
mechanical design and electronics packaging at Siemens-Elema. Since 1994 he has been
responsible for electronics packaging at Pacesetter AB in Sweden.
Membership fee 1998
The Annual Meeting also decided not to change the membership fee generally but to
adjust the fees in the different member nations according to current currency exchange
rates. The fees for 1998 are SEK 450, FIM 310, NOK 420, DKK 390. Enclosed you will find an
invoice. Accepted methods of payment are bank transfer (giro) or credit card. Please pay
to the postgiro account in your country (if Nordic). No checks are accepted! Send all bank
transfer and credit card payments to Terho Kutilainen, fax +358 8 5511 511.
Address list check, email addresses added
Our address lists have been checked but the board certainly do not know all changes. If
you know about changes in your or some other members address, phone number or fax
please inform Terho. We are also setting up an address data base with members email
addresses, please send a message to Terho with your email address.
New website for IMAPS Nordic
We are working on getting our own internet homepage, www.imapsnordic.a.se, for news,
information about microelectronics and hot links to other web sites with similar topics.
At present , we have to wait for the formal verification of our name change from the tax
authorities, since we cannot register the site name without it. However, there is an
intermediate site at http://www.algonet.se/~max8tkn/ishm.html.
We will come back with information when the new web site is up.
Ceramic Interconnect Initiative
DuPont has initiated a large initiative together with tens of other companies in the
field in the USA called Ceramic Interconnect Initiative. This is now spread by the help of
IMAPS world wide. The intention is to make experts in microelectronics aware of the
opportunities offered by the ceramic industry in its different forms. Your company is
invited to participate in this initiative. See www.imaps.org
for more details.
Stockholm next
Our next conference is scheduled for 20 - 23 September, 1998 at the Globen conference
centre in Stockholm. Book these dates already now! You are also invited to send paper- or
speaker suggestions to any board member whenever you get an idea. The deadline for
abstracts is to be May 1, 1998. Abstract shall be sent to the Secretary in electronic
format, for displaying on the web when the programme is finalised.
Students on a trip?
At the Stockholm conference there will be a special poster session for students wanting
to present their work in the field of electronics packaging. The best poster will be
presented as a paper at the conference, and the student will be awarded a trip to IMAPS
USA in November. The purpose of this activity is of course to attract younger generations
to our Society and to the topic of electronics packaging. If you come in contact with
students in our field, please spread this information and encourage them to participate!
Further information on this can be obtained from the web site and Katarina.
Proceedings for sale
As always, we have some proceedings for sale. The most recent one is the IMAPS97,
which is available both as CD-ROM and book. The full list of
proceedings for sale is available at our web site.
That was all for this time, check our home page for further news.
Yours,
Paul Collander
