Dear ISHM Nordic Friends,
It is my pleasure to write this my first letter to the Society I love
since 20 years and I hope the new Board will be able to serve you, our
members, as well as we have been served up to now. This letter gives me an
excellent opportunity to thank especially Søren Nørlyng for the excellent
and hard work he has done for our Society and hope he will continue with his
work as vice president. New Board 1997 There has been some changes in the
Board as of January 1997. The full information on the Board members is printed
in the right margin of this letter. A Virtual Board Meeting was held in
March in order to steer the activities. New technology enables us to commit
the Board to any new question fast and efficiently whenever needed. The new
board can already present some results: An ISHM-Nordic Web site has been
opened and basic information about our Society can be found there. In the
near future this will be our most important and fastest way of
communication. All suggestions to additional information there, corrections
or difficulties to access should be sent to the Secretary Katarina Boustedt.
So go and check the site at
http://www.ivf.se/ep/ishm/
You may also have noticed that the letter format is new. We will use this
format until all information is stabilised and then we will print
letterheads as before. Anyway, you find all necessary information about the
Society, including post giro number in lower right hand corner. From this
page you also see all Board members e-mail addresses as well as all other
contact information. Even the Society as such has got a direct, easy to
remember on-line e-mail address which the Secretary reads every weekday.
We are expecting some changes in both the e-mail and the web address in
May 1997. Also the name of the Society is supposed to be changed. The two US
organisations ISHM and IEPS have merged and changed their name to IMAPS,
International Microelectronics and Packaging Society and at least the
European ISHM organisations will follow.
The Board members are presented briefly at the end of this letter. This
might help you communicate more active with us. It’s all about
communication! ISHM-Nordic 34th Annual Conference, Oslo, Sept. 21-24, 1997
ISHM-Nordic 34th Annual Conference and Exhibition will take place at
Olavsgaard Hotel, near Oslo, Norway, September 21-24, 1997. Enclosed is the

ISHM-NORDIC and ISHM/IMAPS. You will have discounts when you attend these
conferences. You will also have the possibility to buy Proceedings at
marginal cost. Also you will receive 3 issues of the European
"Microelectronics International". Please use our giro accounts for
payment. Any questions related to this should be directed to Terho, our
Treasurer.
Please let me emphasise once more how important it is for you and the
Society that you pay the fee: It will make it possible for us to improve our
services and it will offer you even better possibilities to access the
wealth of knowledge presented at microelectronics conferences around the
world. Proceedings We can offer you the latest Proceedings from · ISHM-NORDIC
1996, Helsingør, 1994, Helsinki; · ISHM-Europe (10th EMC, 1995,
Copenhagen, 9th EMC, 1993, Nice), · ISHM-US ISHM’96 (Minneapolis),
ISHM’95 (Los Angeles) and ISHM'94 (Boston). The price is DKK 300/FIM 235
ea. plus postage. We have a few samples of the ISHM-Poland, 1992, 1993,
1994, 1995, ISHM-USA/Poland, 1995, Japanese IMC-Proceedings, and older
issues of ISHM-Nordic and ISHM-US. Fax or email the Secretary for ordering
or questions. Other publications We can offer the East and Central European
Survey: Gateway to Eastern Europe, on Microelectronics activities in 15
Eastern European countries. It is a unique collection of statistical info
and listings of activities and capabilities by name of the enterprises and
their full addresses. It has many important details for companies interested
in business and research collaboration. It is now offered for DKK 1.000 +
postage.
Another popular publication is the Nordic Microelectronics Survey. More
than 60 companies, research institutes, universities have been visited and
supplied input to the survey. This had made it possible to know not only
statistical facts regarding the size, revenue, number of employees for the
different companies, but also to know what National Programmes each of the
Nordic countries are supporting within Microelectronics and to know about
actual technologies and coming trends in the individual companies. The
survey can be achieved for the very reasonable price of DKK 2.000. Who is
who on the Board? Paul Collander, the new President, has been ISHM Nordic
member since 1974 when he started in the microelectronics world and Board
member since 1986. All these years he has been with Nokia, starting with
setting up the first hybrid production line and now when Nokia has sold out
all PCB and hybrid manufacturing lines he is more involved in searching new
manufacturing technologies and to work on the advanced technology supply
chain. In the Board his role is chairing the activities, especially our
conference programs, and being contact point to the ISHM European Liaison
Committee.
Søren Nørlyng, has been in the ISHM-NORDIC board since 1983. From
1983-91 as secretary and from 1991-96 as president. From 1995-97 he is the
